A delicious cultural treat from Belgium and the Netherlands. A sourdough waffle cookie that we will with a special caramel filling.

The Belgium Stroop waffle is a popular traditional treat in Belgium and the Netherland. It is also very commonly found in the United States among the Dutch American communities. These were a real treat growing up. They are buttery cookie that is fried very thin in a special waffle maker. While hot they are sliced in half and filled with a caramel/molasses filling that we call "Stroop." 

Stroop Waffles are a delicious treat just as they come, however, they are often paired with a hot cup of coffee, tea or whatever you like. Place the Stroop waffle over you cup and let the steam warm the cookie and the caramel inside for something really special. 

Commonly Stroop Waffles are not made with sourdough, but we believe everything possible should be made with sourdough so we tweaked this delicious recipe to make our own Sourdough Stroop Waffle.
